When I became a teacher in Alabama, I learned about a great resource. The Alabama Virtual Library is filled with great nonfiction texts including Britannica encyclopedias. Because it is virtual, there are even videos that students can watch to master a subject. I've used it for all of my research units as it is the best source for informative texts.
