Using Comics to Review Literary Terms

One of the hardest concepts I find to teach and students find to grasp is irony. When reviewing for state testing a few years ago, I used some short comics found in The Perry Bible Fellowship Almanack. The book was purchased at The Telegraph, an amazingly quirky comic and print shop in Charlottesville, VA. While a lot of the comics in the book are probably not suited for a classroom, I found a few that used visuals to portray the ideas of irony and foreshadowing. I was looking for mini lessons that would review terms and concepts needed for the state testing without using the average practice test material. I do enjoy adapting materials to fit my curriculum!
