The 90 Second Newberry Film Festival

In a technology training this week(Tech Teach Learn at the Kentucky Country Day School), I was introduced to an amazing student based film festival: The 90 Second Newberry. Students must retell a Newberry medal winning text with little adult involvement. A great way to incorporate film, technology, and collaboration with students! Submissions are due in December. I'm so excited!

Claymation Kit

I found an awesome claymation kit on Paper Source's website that I just had to buy. It just came in the mail and I'm super excited to try it out. It comes with scenes, props, clay, and googly eyes. All very important ingredients. I am trying to think of the best ways to incorporate filmmaking into my English classroom. I'm pretty stuck on the "film in a box" idea with claymation storytelling. Thinking this kit will give me some good ideas... and fun evenings!

A Long Walk to Water Gifted Project

While teaching A Long Walk to Water a few years ago, I gave students  an extensive list of final projects, and they got to choose their favorite. They ranged in skill level, learning styles, and challenge.

One of my gifted students impressed us all. She created a claymation video of Salva's story. This was all completed on her own time after school. Amazing!
