Here is a section of the mythology unit I used with 7th graders in Virginia. While we were learning about the myths, I tried to incorporate non-fiction texts and questions as well as the new more open-ended questions they were expecting to see on the state test.

"The Origin of Seasons" Test Review Materials
It's getting close to state testing time. At least it always feels that way as a teacher. During the second semester, students need to learn new information while also remembering all of the information from the last semester. Sometimes, that can be tough. No teacher wants to "teach to the test," but there are many ways to incorporate testing strategies and previewing test type questions while still focusing on content.
